Every year, half a million babies in the U.S. are born prematurely. Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death and many life long disabilities.
Our family has been touched deeply by premature birth. Our son Kobe entered the world at 28 weeks weighing 2.5 lbs. He fought for his first breath and has been fighting ever since! Kobe is a strong, courageous, intelligent and vibrant little boy and a true blessing to our family. He survived his premature birth, but will continue to live with it's effects for the rest of his life.
Our son Kaleb was born at 22 weeks weighing 13 oz. He was beautiful and strong, our sweet little boy, but 22 weeks is too early, Kaleb passed away an hour and 18 minutes after his birth.
As the years have passed prematurity, birth defects and infant mortality have touched many of our friends and loved ones, these are tragedies that can be prevented.
It is for our own children, the children of our friends and loved ones, babies not yet born and those who are no longer here with us that we have formed a Family Team to raise money and participate in The March for Babies.
The March of Dimes knows that all babies have a story; they are the only organization working tirelessly to make sure that they are all told. Please join us in our fundraising efforts today by sponsoring our walk or walking beside us on April 26th.
Kobe reminds us of how far research has come, and Kaleb reminds us of how much more research needs to be done. If you were a baby, know a baby, have a baby or plan on having a baby the March of Dimes has all ready touched your life.
The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
